Cork Airport has claimed the title of “Best Airport in Europe (under 5 million passengers)” at the 2025 Airport Council International (ACI) EUROPE Best Airport Awards.
The ceremony took place during the aviation trade association’s Annual Congress & General Assembly in Athens.
This marks the third time Cork Airport has secured this prestigious award, having previously won in 2017 and 2019.
The accolade highlights the airport’s excellence in passenger experience, operational efficiency, route development, sustainability, and innovation.
A Well-Deserved Recognition
Olivier Jankovec, ACI Europe Director General, praised the Irish airport’s achievements. “Cork Airport thoroughly deserves this recognition,” he said. “The team has worked tirelessly to improve operations, enhance passenger experience, and meet ambitious environmental goals.”
“Their efforts have boosted air connectivity and passenger numbers, strengthening the regional economy, tourism, and competitiveness.”
This acknowledgment reflects the airport’s growing role in driving growth for the South of Ireland.
Leadership Applauds Success
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin congratulated the Cork Airport team, emphasizing the significance of the award. “This is a prestigious honor,” he stated. “Cork Airport continues to go from strength to strength.”
“This achievement reflects the dedication of Managing Director Niall MacCarthy and his team. With plans for further development, I’m excited to see the airport continue to thrive as Ireland’s fastest-growing airport.”

Impressive Growth and New Routes
In 2024, Cork Airport welcomed 3.2 million passengers, a 10% increase from 2023. The airport is on track to surpass 3.4 million passengers in 2025.
Cork Airport actively expanded its network with the addition of four new routes to Corfu, Izmir, Bilbao, and Bordeaux and partnering with a new airline, SunExpress, driving this growth.
These developments have expanded Cork Airport’s extensive route network, making it a vital gateway for travellers.
Cork Airport is also a leader in sustainability. For two consecutive years, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) named it the “Best Performing Commercial Semi-State Body” for energy reduction.
This recognition underscores the airport’s commitment to environmental responsibility, aligning with its broader goals of innovation and efficiency.
Ambitious Future Plans
In May 2025, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced a €200 million investment by daa Group to enhance Cork Airport’s infrastructure.
The Capital Development Plan includes a new mezzanine floor for an expanded security area, a larger duty-free shop, a bigger executive lounge, additional car parking spaces, more boarding gates, new aircraft stands, and a new pier.
These upgrades are designed to support passenger growth beyond 5 million, ensuring the airport can meet future demand.
The airport’s third ACI EUROPE Best Airport Award cements its reputation as a leader among Europe’s regional airports. With strong leadership, dedicated staff, and a clear vision for growth, the airport is poised to continue its upward trajectory.
