A Hawaiian Airlines flight bound for Kahului, Hawaii from Sacramento diverted to Oakland after experiencing an air-conditioning system failure on 11 August 2025.
Hawaiian airlines flight HA59, operated by an Airbus A321neo, had departed from Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
The flight was a scheduled service bound for Kahului Airport (OGG), Hawaii.

As the flight transited the Pacific Ocean at cruising altitude, flight crew reported experiencing a problem with the aircraft’s backup air-conditioning system.
The system is a mandatory operating requirement to comply with ETOPS flight operations. As a result, flight crew initiated a turnaround and diverted to Oakland International Airport (OAK).
The flight subsequently landed on runway 30 Oakland International Airport just over two hours after its initial departure from Sacramento.
A replacement aircraft was mustered by the airline to carry out the onwards flight service to Hawaii.
