Atlanta-bound Delta A330 returns to Barcelona with engine problems

A Delta Air Lines scheduled flight operating from Barcelona, Spain to Atlanta was forced to make a precautionary return to Barcelona on Friday, February 1 after it experienced engine problems shortly after takeoff.

Delta DL195 Barcelona – Atlanta

Delta Air Lines flight DL195, an Airbus A330 operating a long-haul service from Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) initiated a return to Barcelona after reporting a problem with one engine in the climb after takeoff.

Flight data for the service shows that the aircraft had departed normally and was on climb and passing through FL270 (27,000 feet) when it experienced the problem with one engine. The flight subsequently terminated the climb and carried out a return to the departure airport.

The flight subsequently landed without further incident approximately one hour after the initial departure.

Delta flight DL195 had initially made an on-time departure out of BCN at 09:34 local time before executing the diversion approximately 30 minutes into the flight.

Having returned to Barcelona, the flight was subsequently cancelled and a replacement aircraft was mustered from Frankfurt-Main Airport to Barcelona to carry out the replacement flight for the following day to Atlanta.

The aircraft conducting the February 1 DL195 rotation to Atlanta was a Boeing A330-300, registered N803NW; a 20-year-old wide-body aircraft belonging to the US carrier Delta Air Lines.
