Airbus’s May deliveries brought its year-to-date total to 243 aircraft handed over to 61 customers. The A321neo dominated the lineup, with its fuel-efficient design and versatility making it a favourite among airlines.
The delivery of the first A321XLR to Wizz Air UK, registered as G-XLRA, is a game-changer. This Pratt & Whitney-powered aircraft enables Wizz Air to launch long-haul, low-cost routes, such as London Gatwick to Jeddah.
Similarly, Kuwait Airways received its first A321neo, part of a nine-aircraft order, featuring a modern two-class cabin with 166 seats.
No New Orders in May
While Airbus recorded no new orders in May 2025, the company’s backlog remains robust at over 8,600 aircraft.
Industry sources suggest Airbus may be holding orders for announcement at upcoming airshows to maximize impact. Despite the lack of new sales, the focus on deliveries shows Airbus’s priority to fulfill existing commitments.
Navigating Challenges
Airbus continues to face supply chain constraints, particularly with engine availability, which contributed to the slight delivery decline.
However, the company remains optimistic, targeting 820 deliveries by year-end. Investments in production facilities aim to boost A321neo output to 75 aircraft monthly by 2027.
