Sunshine Coast Airport (SCA) and Jetstar have announced a significant expansion, adding over 49,000 seats on flights to Sydney and Melbourne.

This development coincides with Jetstar’s 21st birthday celebrations, marking a milestone for both the airline and the airport.

From July to October, SCA will offer a record-breaking 600,000 seats across all airlines on these key routes, the highest in the airport’s history.

Additional Flights and Larger Aircraft

This boost in capacity comes from a combination of additional flights and the use of larger aircraft on routes connecting the Sunshine Coast with Sydney and Melbourne.

Alongside new services to Cairns and Auckland launched in December, Jetstar’s total seat capacity will surge by more than 30% compared to the same period last year.

The increased availability reflects growing demand for travel to and from the Sunshine Coast, a popular destination known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and relaxed lifestyle.

Meeting Growing Travel Demand

Chris Mills, CEO of Sunshine Coast Airport, emphasized the importance of this expansion for travellers. “Sydney and Melbourne are our primary markets, and we’ve seen strong demand for flights to these cities,” Mills said.

“Adding 49,000 seats is a major win for both locals planning a quick getaway and visitors from the south eager to explore the Sunshine Coast’s incredible attractions.”

The additional seats will provide travelers with greater choice, flexibility, and convenience. Whether it’s a weekend escape to Sydney’s bustling cityscape or a Melbourne cultural adventure, passengers can now plan trips that suit their schedules.

Mills expressed gratitude to Jetstar for their commitment to enhancing connectivity to the Sunshine Coast, ensuring the region remains accessible to a wide range of travelers.

Demand for Budget-Friendly Flights

Jetstar’s Executive Manager of Commercial Planning, Lyle Brownscombe, highlighted the airline’s focus on meeting the rising demand for budget-friendly flights. “This is our third expansion of the Sunshine Coast network in just six months,” Brownscombe noted.

“Following the launch of flights to Auckland and Cairns in December, we’re excited to offer even more low-cost options for travelers.”

The new seats will be available starting in July, perfectly timed for the peak winter travel season. Brownscombe added, “July to October is a fantastic time to visit Queensland, with its warm weather and sunny skies.”

“We expect these extra seats to be in high demand, especially among southerners seeking a winter escape to the Sunshine Coast’s beautiful beaches and laid-back vibe.”

Bright Future for Sunshine Coast

This expansion strengthens Sunshine Coast Airport’s position as a key gateway to one of Australia’s most beloved regions. The record-breaking seat capacity underscores the growing popularity of the Sunshine Coast as a must-visit destination.

Whether travellers are drawn to its pristine beaches, world-class dining, or outdoor adventures, the region offers something for everyone.

Jetstar’s increased services also align with the airline’s mission to make travel affordable and accessible.

By offering more low-fare flights, Jetstar ensures that both locals and visitors can explore new destinations without breaking the bank.

As the Sunshine Coast continues to attract travellers from across Australia and beyond, this partnership with Jetstar sets the stage for a vibrant and connected future.

With 49,000 additional seats and a record 600,000 seats overall, Sunshine Coast Airport and Jetstar are ready to welcome more travellers than ever.
