AC Milan are evaluating the position of Stefano Pioli, following the 2-2 draw against Salernitana, as well as potential replacements in the summer. Bologna’s manager Thiago Motta is one of two key candidates, a report claims.
Pioli is under heavy scrutiny after what has been a very disappointing first half of the season. The game against Sassuolo, scheduled for Saturday, could even be decisive for his immediate future as Milan could promote Ignazio Abate to caretaker.
As for next season, per MilanNews, Milan have two key candidates for the position: Thiago Motta (Bologna) and Francesco Farioli (Nice). The former appears to be the favourite thanks to his playing style, ability to work with young players and communication skills.
Vincenzo Italiano is also on the shortlist, as the report continues, but Napoli are very keen on him and this makes a Milan takeover unlikely. Either way, it will be difficult to find a replacement for Pioli mid-season unless it’s Abate, or potentially Antonio Conte if Cardinale wants to go down that route.
Bologna and Motta are just two points behind Milan in the standings, which says a lot given the difference in player material. They have also lost just two games this season, as opposed to the Rossoneri’s four losses.
