The winger didn’t have a good game on Thursday evening, as Milan faced Roma in the Europa League quarter-final, and received a low score in our player ratings. For the reverse leg, the Rossoneri fans will be hoping for a completely different Leao, who surely is eager to redeem himself.
In his Daily Briefing newsletter, Fabrizio Romano shared an update on Leao amid some criticism after the game. Fans of other teams have been asking the journalist where the Portuguese winger’s future really lies, to which he replied the following…
“Rafa Leão was booed off after the defeat against Roma but honestly guys, I’d not make it bigger than it is… he had a bad game, it happens in football.
“AC Milan fans still love Leão as he’s a fantastic player and he has no problems with anyone. No relationship is broken because of one game.
“Nothing is ongoing in terms of a transfer elsewhere either, and no one has appeared with €175m for his release clause, so really nothing to it,” he stated.
As said, however, it’s clear that Leao will have to do a lot better in the reverse fixture against Roma. He’s expected to be rested against Sassuolo tomorrow so energy shouldn’t be a problem, while Pioli’s tactics will surely be slightly different.
